Vermiculite Impacts Investigation and Remediation

LA-Imapacted Soil Removal

Location: Libby, MT

Client: Class I Railroad Client

EMR provided investigation and remediation of Libby Amphibole (LA) asbestos-impacted portions of the Libby, MT Superfund Site. Approximately 14,000 tons of LA-impacted soils were removed from an area covering 140,000 square feet under the direction and regulatory presence of the USEPA under an Administrative Order on Consent. Railroad ties, rails, and other appurtenances were also removed and either decontaminated for recycling or disposed of as potentially asbestos-impacted waste. Demolition of buildings and foundations were also required in order to meet the remediation goals and EMR was able to complete all such removals and properly dispose of the debris as asbestos-impacted waste due to their location in the site. EMR also provided all soil and air sampling services. Sampling activities included grid area soil sampling, clearance soil sampling, and OSHA compliant air sampling to activity-based soil sampling to determine the risk to workers and the public related to railroad maintenance activities within the Superfund Site.
